The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is facing delays in receiving federal funding.
Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed is among the senators leading the fight to get the 4 billion dollar fund released as soon as possible.
The pause may affect state residents who rely on the program to access heating bill support.
State leaders are encouraging people to apply now to check their eligibility for benefits.
“As Congress works to finalize the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Human Services, we urge you to immediately release the highest amount of Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding available under the Continuing Resolution,” the 31 senators wrote.
Funds are expected to be available in several weeks.
