Rep. Neal Says SNAP Can Be Funded But Govt. Choosing Not To

Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal says money is available to fund SNAP benefits during the government shutdown, but the Trump Administration is choosing not to use it.

The Democrat from Springfie says President Trump has contingency money that is set aside for a situation like this, all he has to do is agree to spend it.

Neal's comments echo a lawsuit filed by 25 states earlier this week demanding the U.S. Department of Agriculture to use the funds.

The Congressman says that the Administration had already cut 186 million dollars from the SNAP program and now a suspension of payments threatens the health of more than 40 million people.

SNAP benefits are set to run out of money on November 1st if no action is taken and the shutdown continues.
