New details are being released about the drug and firearm charges against the former deputy director of Governor Maura Healey's Western Massachusetts office.
Authorities said officers intercepted multiple packages of cocaine this month from the State Office Building on Dwight Street and Hotel U-Mass in Amherst, where LaMar Cook used to work as the Director of Hospitality.
Cook was reportedly detained last weekend after trying to recover one of the intercepted packages from an undercover officer, and is also accused of possessing a firearm without a license.
The Governor's Office says Cook has been terminated from his position, and called his alleged actions a "major breach of the public trust."
Cook's Attorney says that he is not worried about the charges. Cook is expected to be back in court on Friday.
