Mass Joins Lawsuit Over SNAP Funding Freeze

Massachusetts is joining over 20 states in filing a lawsuit over the Trump administration freezing SNAP benefits.

The states are asking a federal judge in Massachusetts to order the U.S. Department of Agriculture to use contingency money to continue the supplemental nutritional funding.

“More than one million people in Massachusetts rely on SNAP to put food on the table,” said AG Campbell. “Despite having the money to fund SNAP, the Trump Administration is creating needless fear, angst and harm for millions of families and their children especially as we approach the holidays. It is past time for the Trump Administration to act to help, rather than harm, those who rely on our government.”

Over 42 million people nationwide receive benefits through the food stamp program.

The lawsuit argues that the ending of SNAP funding is illegal, and will deprive citizens of protections against food insecurity and hunger.
