The Pentagon says "Operation Midnight Hammer," was the largest B-2 bomber strike in U.S. history.
The U.S. struck three nuclear facilities in Iran, including the fortified Fordow facility.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine said he believes the U.S. struck a blow to Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Caine said the destruction to the facilities was substantial and more will be known in the coming days.
Congressman Richard Neal and other Democrats in the state are weighing in.
“Iran's foreign ministry says the U.S. has started "a dangerous war against Iran." The U.S. military conducted air President Trump offered the American people no strategy and no justification for his attack on Iran — only the prospect of another war that the American people do not want. That’s why Congress, as the voice of the people, is entrusted with the constitutional authority to decide matters of war.”
Senator Ed Markey said: ““Trump’s military attack on Iran was illegal and unconstitutional. This attack was not approved by Congress and holds dangers for all Americans. The American people do not want another endless war in the Middle East.
This attack may set back but will not stop Iran’s efforts to get a nuclear bomb. The regime can rebuild its program and will now be highly motivated to do so. A diplomatic solution remains the best way to permanently and verifiably prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.”
Iran's foreign ministry says the U.S. has started "a dangerous war against Iran." The U.S. military conducted airstrikes against three nuclear facilities in Iran early Sunday local time, using "bunker buster" bombs to destroy underground sites. Iran released a statement saying that "in the midst of a diplomatic process," the U.S. has "betrayed diplomacy." It went on to say the U.S. government "bears full responsibility for the grave consequences and dire repercussions" of the attack.
