A protest was held in Springfield yesterday against potential cuts to Social Security.
Demonstrators gathered outside the Social Security Office to voice their opposition to the federal government's plan to terminate seven-thousand jobs in the department.
That's about twelve-percent of its workforce.
The union representing Social Security employees in New England said a reduction in workers results in a reduction of benefits.
Meantime, Congressman Richard Neal appeared at a Democratic Steering Committee on Social Security. Neal says it is amazing to him that 90 years after Social Security was created they are still finding themselves in a position to have to defend the program. Neal says all Republicans are trying to do is gut the system and devote millions of additional dollars to tax cuts for billionaires.
