Rhode Island state Treasurer James Diossa and his counterparts in Connecticut and Massachusetts are urging Stop & Shop to reach a contract settlement.
The Teamsters union, which represents 900 workers at the company's distribution center in Freetown, Massachusetts, claims Stop & Shop wants to replace the current health care plan with one that would cost employees more money.
If a deal is not reached by Friday, Stop & Shop said the warehouse will close and distribution will be outsourced.
The union is threatening to picket at every store in New England.
